Children build with Lego

LEGO  HARVEST at Tapton Hill Church, Manchester Road, Crosspool.

Tapton Hill Congregational Church is holding another of their popular fun Lego events on Saturday 7th October from 10:30 am. to 11.30am.

This event is for children aged 5-12 to build their own imaginary factory inspired by an iconic favourite Sheffield food product, using mountains of Lego.
Please note- I’m afraid you cannot take your creation home, but you can take lots of photos of it. Please bring an adult with you, (No unaccompanied children please).
We will also give thanks for all those who help our food get to our plates and share a Harvest-themed Bible story.

There’ll be snacks and drinks for you. Any donations you can give would be very much appreciated.

Volunteer wins 2017 Crosspool community award

Sheila Lomas is presented with the 2017 Crosspool Person of the Year award

A local resident who has spent decades helping out in our local community has been rewarded with this year’s Crosspool Person of the Year award.

Sheila Lomas is well known for her voluntary work at Tapton Congregational Church where she has been involved with hosting garden parties, Christmas events and summer fetes and other fundraisers.

Her selfless work in the local community has been truly remarkable and she is a worthy recipient for this award.

In 1997 Sheila started the Soup and a Roll lunch club with 6 guests. Still running today, it has grown to nearly 40 diners, meeting monthly for lunch, a natter and an afternoon of entertainment.

Crosspool Forum had arranged for the Lord Mayor Councillor Anne Murphy to make the presentation at the Open Meeting on Thursday, but due to a last minute reschedule the Lord Mayor was unable to attend and has therefore kindly agreed to officially present Sheila with the award a little later in the year.

All take place at The Corner Chapel, Tapton Hill Congregational Church, Manchester Road.

BFG film showing (part of Crosspool Festival)

For children on Saturday 1 July 10.30am-12.30pm. You can also come from 10.15am to make BFG ears and dream jars. Please note that this is a PG film so not suitable for very small children. £3 per child refreshments provided.

Chosen play

A 0ne-woman play based on the life of Mary. Saturday 8 July. The performance begins at 7.30pm. Donations welcome. Refreshments provided. See hazeltwig.org.uk for more details about the play.

The Great Picnic

A children’s morning in the summer holidays. August 17 10am-12.30pm. Games, Crafts, a bible story and the children will make their own picnic lunch to eat outside (weather permitting). £4 per child which includes all the food. Places are limited. Crosspool by the Sea activity morning on Saturday 5 September

Tapton Hill church is holding a service to celebrate 100 years

On Saturday 5 September a Crosspool by the Sea activity morning will take place at Tapton Hill Chapel on Manchester Road.

Children can make boats, decorate biscuits plus there’ll be ice lollies, beach games, crafts and a Bible story.

It’s for 7-10 year olds and runs 10am-12noon. Entry is free but you need to reserve places by calling Suzanne Nockels on 0114 232 5790.

The Story of Back to Back Houses illustrated talk

Suzanne Bingham is giving an illustrated talk on The Story of Back to Back Houses on Saturday 12 October.

The event is part of Tapton Hill Church celebrating 100 years in their present home.

It starts at 7pm. Entry is £3 and includes refreshments. There are no tickets: just turn up and pay on the door.

Loxley Silver Band will play Last Night at the Proms celebration on Saturday 21 September to celebrate 100 years of Tapton Hill Church in its present building.

Last Night of the Proms traditionally includes patriotic numbers such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule, Britannia! and Jerusalem.

The event at the church starts at 7.30pm and tickets, which include refreshments, are available for £6 from 07971 408809 or 0114 230 8191.

Spring fayre and art exhibition this weekend

Two local events are taking place this weekend.

Tapton Hill Church is hosting a Spring Fayre on Saturday 9 April. It starts at 2pm and there are stalls and refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

Running both Saturday and Sunday is a Hallam Art Group exhibition. It takes place in Hallam Community Hall on Hallam Grange Crescent and is open 10am-5pm.
