Over the past seven or eight years, Crosspool Forum has planted some thirty thousand spring bulbs in and around Crosspool.

A big thank you to the dozen or so volunteers of all ages and abilities who kindly gave up an hour of their time on a bright sunny Saturday morning last weekend to plant 4,000 crocus and daffodils bulbs on Stephen Hill, Manchester Road and on the Dransfield Road/Watt Lane triangle.

The community of Crosspool can be assured of an even better show of colour next spring.

Spring bulb planting this Saturday – get involved!

Thanks for all your ideas for where to plant our spring bulbs. The three locations earmarked to receive this year’s allocation are the top of Stephen Hill, the triangle at the junction of Watt lane and Dransfield Road and on Manchester Road, possibly between the two churches.

Can you spare an hour on Saturday 15 October to help Crosspool Forum plant them on grass verges near to where you live? We’ll be meeting at 10am on the verge in front of the Crosspool Tavern.

If you fancy popping along then telephone 0114 335 1674, email  crosspoolforum@fsmail.net or just turn up. You don’t need to bring anything, but if you do have a small spade then please bring it along.

Each autumn, members of Crosspool Forum and local residents plant spring bulbs in some of our public spaces and verges in order to brighten up the community with flowers in the spring.

We’ve ordered some more bulbs and want your suggestions for places in Crosspool where we could consider planting them. So if you know a bit of land or area that would benefit from a splash of colour then let us know by filling in the form below. We need your ideas by the end of September.

If you’re interested in lending an hour or two of your time to help plant the bulbs in October then look out for details on here.

Spring bulb planting this Saturday

Crosspool Forum is inviting local residents to join in with the planting of 1,000 crocus and 3,000 daffodil bulbs along Manchester Road.

If you can spare an hour and would like to come along, we’ll be meeting at 10am this Saturday, 2nd October, at the top of Hagg Lane, at its junction with Manchester Road.

The local Beaver group also has 1,000 crocuses of their own, which they are planning to plant in the shape of their emblem on the sloping verge which flanks the Manchester Road Pelican crossing’s tactile paved surface.
