Open Gardens is on the look out again for people in Crosspool who would like to be community spirited and open their garden to raise some money for their chosen charity.
Anyone can have a go! This event is to encourage people to get outside, walk round the neighbourhood, meet new people and enjoy their gardens.
No previous experience required, no perfect gardens needed, just a warm welcome, a patch of interest in the garden be it plants, vegetables, chickens, bees or an activity you’d like to share with others.
Oh and maybe a cuppa with a nice piece of cake!

Open up your garden as part of this year’s Crosspool Open Gardens
The organisers of Crosspool Open Gardens are inviting everyone to share their gardens and raise money for charities as part of a revamped event for this year’s festival.
Traditionally the event has attracted gardens with impressive displays of flowers, fruit and vegetables. This year they’re also looking for Crosspool residents to show their neighbours some of the other ways that people are using gardens.
Organiser Lindsey Beagles explained: “People use their gardens for lots of things as well as flowers and veg. Having a cuppa, looking at the view, BBQs, hobbies such as art, music, restoring cars or mending bikes, football, keeping chickens, bees or fish are all just as valid a reason to share your garden.
“Maybe you have a great play area for the kids, or someone may want to do nail art on the patio for charity. I want people to share their space with their neighbours and raise some money for charity in the process. So it is not just about fantastic gardens although as we have seen, there are plenty of these in Crosspool!”
Crosspool Open Gardens 2013 takes place on Saturday 29 June. Gardens are usually open between 10:30 and 4:30pm, although you don’t have to open all day if you don’t want. Any money you raise from opening up your garden should be donated to a charity of your choice.

From fun runs to leg waxing, the Crosspool community is coming together to help raise money for children with type one diabetes.
On Sunday 27 May 2012, 33 children from Crosspool schools Lydgate Infant, Lydgate Junior and Tapton – along with children from Waterthorpe Primary and Sheffield High School – are running the 3K fun run in support of children with type one diabetes.
Further to the support received from the local schools, local butcher Philip James is having his legs waxed on Saturday 30 June 2012 at 12pm outside his shop on Sandygate Road – anyone wishing to pay for a wax strip is welcome to sponsor him!
In addition to this, Top to Toe Beauticians on Sandygate Road has raised £424 by organising a raffle. Gym Plus in Crookes and The Avenue Hair & Beauty Salon on Glossop Road are also supporting fundraising efforts.

Why not open up your garden as part of this year's Crosspool Open Gardens?
Crosspool Open Gardens sees proud local residents open up their private gardens to the public to raise money for charities.
This year’s event is on Saturday 7 July and marks the start of Crosspool Festival 2012. As well as a chance to look round many of the old favourites, the organisers are looking for new gardens to take part.
Participating gardens are featured in a Open Gardens paper programme. Profits from the sale of the programme are shared between charities nominated by participating gardeners, who can also raise funds themselves by selling plants and refreshments.

Twelve charities are to share the £3,300 raised from this year’s Crosspool Open Gardens on Saturday 3 July.
The annual event, which is co-ordinated by members of Stephen Hill Methodist Church, ran this year as part of the Crosspool Festival programme.
There were 15 gardens around the neighbourhood to explore, including allotments off Back Lane, two adjoining houses on Cairns Road and the Den Bank Close garden featuring a model railway.
One Manchester Road garden also accommodated an art sale, plus a book signing by local historian and author Judith Hanson. Plentiful supplies of tea and cake were also available at most of the gardens.
Open Gardens started as a fundraising event for the church’s development appeal but has now been extended to support charities nominated by the owner of each of the showcased gardens.
