The Crosspool Summer Festival’s Scarecrow Competition is a cherished tradition, igniting the community’s creative spirit. This year’s theme, ‘Sports Personalities,’ invites participants to craft scarecrows inspired by iconic figures in the world of sports.
Open to all Crosspool residents, the competition is a fantastic opportunity for locals to showcase their artistic talents and celebrate sports heroes in a unique and festive way. With an entry fee of only £4, it’s an accessible event for everyone.

Entrants can display their scarecrows from the 28th of June to the 5th of July, with the judging taking place throughout this period. The event not only fosters local engagement but also supports Crosspool Festival Charities, making it a win-win for both the community and the charitable causes it champions
The winners of the three excellent prizes, donated by local businesses, will be announced at the Summer Fayre, Coldwell Lane Park/Sports Hall, on Saturday 6th July 2024.
Crookes and Crosspool Councillor, Ruth Milsom, was re-elected last Thursday with an increased vote majority.
Ruth Milsom, was re-elected with 3310 votes. Her majority stands at 1122, which has increased since her first election in 2021 (majority: 308).
Councillor Ruth Milsom said:
“I’m very touched that so many residents have put their faith in me to serve them and our local area for another four years. I and all those who campaigned with me to get our positive messages out are thrilled with the election result. It shows that people are pleased with the work that Cllr Minesh Parekh, MP Olivia Blake, and I have been doing – but we will never be complacent, or take people for granted.
“There is always more to be done. During this election campaign, we have heard loud and clear what local issues matter most to people. I can’t wait to get started again!”

This summer, Crosspool Festival is holding its popular two-day Art, Craft, and Photography for the people of Crosspool to showcase their creativity in the areas of Art, Craft, and Photography.
Anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, visits, shops or goes to school in the Crosspool area can enter and have their submission exhibited. There will be a chance also to win some prizes, which are sponsored by Cocker & Carr Estate Agents.
During the two days, there will also be demonstrations by local residents on watercolour painting, wood turning and lace making.
If you would like to offer to demonstrate your skill/hobby, then please contact us using the details below*.
There is no theme to follow, just show us what you can create. You can enter as many of the categories as you want, but no more than two entries per category.
All visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for their favourite entries in both the under-16s and over-16s categories.
After the exhibition, Cocker & Carr will then put on a window display for some of the entries

The Rivelin Valley Conservation Group (RVCG) is known for its dedication to preserving the natural beauty and heritage of the Rivelin Valley.
In 2024, they have a diverse array of events scheduled that promise to engage the community and further conservation efforts. These events often include talks by wildlife enthusiasts and experts, task days for hands-on involvement, and open meetings to discuss ongoing and future projects.
