The much‑loved Benty Lane pub closed its doors on Monday 12 January for a well‑deserved makeover.
The refurbishment will brighten the space, boost comfort, and keep the pub thriving as one of Crosspool’s favourite community hubs.
Great to see fresh investment in a place so many of us enjoy. They’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 28 January.

Crosspool Social, the local café located on Sandygate Road in Crosspool, attended a drinks reception at Number 11 Downing Street on Monday 13th October which had been organised to celebrate the vital contribution of small businesses to our country.
The café was invited to attend the reception by local MP Olivia Blake, who said that Crosspool Social had ‘become a cherished part of the local community… as a venue where creativity, connection, and community spirit flourish.
In their Facebook status about their invitation, Katie from Crosspool Social said that she was ‘so proud of the impact we have already made with the cafe. Thank you to Olivia Blake MP for the invitation (we’re honoured!) and to everyone who has bought a coffee, cake, pie or pint, or supported us by attending one of our events.’
Minesh Parekh, Crosspool Councillor and a member of Sheffield City Council’s Economic Development committee said:
“Small businesses like Crosspool Social are the backbone of our city’s economy. I’m really glad that our MP Olivia Blake chose Crosspool Social, which is such an important anchor in our local community, and that the team got a much-deserved celebration in Downing Street.”
Local businessman celebrates Grand Opening of the “Sharrow Restaurant” after a three-year planning battle
After a protracted three-year struggle with local planning officials, restaurateur Adriatik Likaj is finally opening the doors to his new venture, “The Sharrow” on Sharrow Vale Road.
To mark the occasion, he’s throwing a grand opening celebration on Friday, 10th October, starting at 6pm, complete with complimentary Mediterranean and Albanian cuisine and prosecco.
Likaj, known locally known for running the “Crosspool Fish Bar”, took over the former Otto’s restaurant in 2022. His plans to revamp the venue hit a major snag when a £40,000 veranda installation was twice denied planning permission by the council, which later ordered its removal.
Now, with the venue officially cleared to open, Likaj is inviting the community to join him in a well-earned celebration of perseverance.
The recently opened “Valencia Restaurant,” located at 34 Sandygate Rd., S10 5RY, adds to the thriving culinary scene in Crosspool. It complements an impressive lineup of local favourites, such as the beloved Papa Ciccio’s restaurant, the Sportsman and Crosspool Tavern pubs, and eateries like Hudson’s Kitchen, Aesthete, and Crosspool Social, all offering delicious meal options.
The kitchen equipment, furniture, and bar area of the former Varanasi restaurant have undergone a complete overhaul. By removing partition walls and upgrading the windows, the dining space has transformed the Valencia Restaurant into a bright, open area. Here, guests can relish a vibrant Mediterranean menu, a long-standing favourite since its debut in 2015 at their much-loved Selsey location.

The Crosspool Social Café is located in what was the Nest, next door to the Crosspool Pets and near the Sheffield-bound bus stop, making it an easily accessible spot for both locals and visitors alike.
The refurbishment of the premises, with cozy seating arrangements and ambient lighting, has created a warm and inviting interior with an atmosphere perfect for casual meetings or quiet moments.
The Crosspool Social Cafés opening times of 8.30am-5pm Monday to-Friday ; 9am-2pm on Saturdays, provides ample opportunity for coffee lovers to enjoy their range of good food throughout the week.

A Friendship Lunch is a monthly social event with live entertainment.

It is aimed at the elderly, lonely and/or socially isolated.
The event is ‘dementia friendly’ and therefore ideal for those living with dementia and their families/carers, although we must point out that 1-1 support or personal care at the events is not provided.
If guests do need extra support, they are advised to bring a family member or carer.
The Friendship Lunch offers a wonderful opportunity for the elderly, lonely and/or socially isolated. To meet old/make new friends. To dine and dance in a warm and safe environment.
