Thom from Cocker & Carr had the honour of announcing the results and generously sponsored all the prizes: £15 for each winner and £10 for the runners-up. The annual Sheffield Photography Society exhibition at Sheffield Cathedral was once again a resounding success, delighting visitors with a stunning display of over 160 prints. This year, the Society introduced a public competition, inviting photography enthusiasts to submit their work. The four winning images were professionally printed, mounted, and proudly showcased at the exhibition.
Among the winners was Crosspool’s own Eric Stevens, whose captivating print, *Tranquillity at Keswick*, not only earned a spot in the exhibition but also claimed the title of the public’s favourite image. Remarkably, the two runners-up also hailed from Crosspool—Eddie Sherwood, who impressed with his Barn Owl print, and Erica Oram with Beech Sapling. Adding to the local triumph, Crosspudlian` Andrew Graves’ Lucy’s Diamond in the Sky was awarded the prestigious Society Trophy, chosen by the judge as the exhibition’s best print. The external judge praised the piece, stating, “This image is full of fun with a dash of colour brightening the angry sky. The position of the figure joins the sky, the sea, and the ground together, making for an emotive and interesting composition. A fun image, ideally suited to the small print format, but strong in storytelling and emotional depth.”

This July, Crosspool Festival is again holding its popular two-day exhibition for the people of Crosspool to showcase their creativity in the areas of Art, Craft, Photography and Cake Making.

This recent exhibition showcasing the extraordinary creativity and talent of Crosspool was yet another resounding success!
Crosspool estate agents, Cocker & Carr kindly sponsored the prizes for the winners and runners-up of the exhilarating two-day festival exhibition
This captivating event encompassed a wide range of artistic endeavours, including art, craft, photography, and cake-making competitions. The exhibition was a true celebration of talent, featuring captivating displays from local members of the Sheffield Photography Society, Sheffield Philatelic Society, as well as skilled lace makers. Additionally, the alpaca wool creations from Holly Hagg Community Farm added a charming touch to the exhibition, ensuring a diverse array of artistic expressions.
With over 140 breathtaking items on display, there was something to captivate the admiration and enjoyment of every visitor. The exhibition also provided an opportunity for visitors to engage and participate, as more than 130 attendees had the chance to cast their votes for their favourite art piece and photograph. Meanwhile, a panel of esteemed judges meticulously evaluated the craft and cake-making categories. Their discerning eyes and expertise allowed them to recognize exceptional skill and outstanding craftsmanship from the participants.
As a token of appreciation, Cocker & Carr will proudly display the winning entries for the next week, allowing the wider community to marvel at the sheer brilliance of the works. Take a moment to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the winners!
In the Art category, Beth Eastwood secured the top spot among the talented contestants above the age of 16, while Sue Sherwood claimed a well-deserved second place.
Moving on to the under-16s category, Neha Chonkar emerged as the winner, showcasing incredible talent at such a young age, while Thomas Hickin secured an impressive second place.
Focusing on the captivating realm of Photography, it is worth mentioning that Andrew Graves not only claimed the first-place position but also demonstrated exceptional skill by securing second place among contestants above the age of 16.
The Craft category was another highlight of the exhibition, with participants showcasing their exceptional skills and creativity. Among contestants above the age of 16 impressing the judges with their remarkable craftsmanship, Ken Rutter emerged as the deserving winner. Sylvia Hartley, with her incredible talent and attention to detail, secured a commendable second place.
The exciting competition for Cakes! Taking home, the well-deserved first place in the over-16s category was the talented Leonie Souster! Her cake wowed the judges with its impeccable design, delicious flavours, and flawless execution. It was truly a masterpiece! Securing the second position was the incredibly creative Gillian Nottingham. Her cake impressed everyone with its unique concept and mouthwatering taste. These talented individuals showcased their love for baking and left a lasting impression on everyone present at the competition.

Over 70 wonderful exhibits from very talented Crosspool folk were on display last Thursday at St. Columba Church. The four judges were impressed with the range and quality of entries. There was also a display by Mavis Roadhouse on using silk, a very complicated and delicate skill. The winners each received a certificate and a cash prize sponsored by Crosspool Estate Agents, Cocker & Carr.

The winners were: Craft Sandra Bousted for her hand made journal made from recycled materials. Art under 16s: an exceptional and brilliant portrait drawing by Neha Chonkar. Art adults: Rosalie Hoyland ‘smoke scene, sparks and soot’. Photography under 16s: Kai Haste-Wain’s image of a resting bee.
