BRITISH CHAMPION

Suzy Kerfoot

At the end of May Crosspool beauty therapist Suzy Kerfoot made her way to Boston USA to compete in her first international competition as a member of “Team Great Britain “at the “Masters Gymnastics World Cup.”

The journey to the Masters Gymnastics World Cup in Boston marks a significant milestone, reflecting the culmination of dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Achieving a personal ranking at an international level is a testament to the hard work and commitment that goes beyond the confines of national representation. The narrow miss from a podium finish by a mere 0.8 marks is a bittersweet reminder of the fine margins that define competitive sports. Excelling in the Vault and Floor routines to secure a world ranking of number 5 is an extraordinary accomplishment, especially considering the personal challenges and responsibilities that come with being a parent and business owner. The support from the community, family, and sponsors underscores the collective spirit that sports can foster, uniting people in celebration of individual and team achievements.

As the British Championships approach, the anticipation builds not just for the defense of her No. 1 title but for the continuation of a journey that inspires and resonates with many. The story shared on social media platforms like Instagram serves as a beacon of inspiration, and displays that dreams have no expiration date and that with determination, they are within reach at any stage of life.

British Television Series Set in Crosspool

Marsh Lane (“The Star”)

Sheffield is currently abuzz with the excitement of television production, as the city plays host to the filming of a new British television series.
The series, titled ‘Reunion’, is a BBC thriller that has chosen the scenic location of Crosspool and other Sheffield areas, including Doncaster, as its backdrop.
This development is a testament to Sheffield’s growing reputation as a prime filming location, offering diverse landscapes and urban settings that are ideal for the silver screen.

With the Crosspool residents eager to catch glimpses of the production in action, it’s indeed thrilling times for drama enthusiasts and the local community to witness the creative process firsthand.

“Reunion” promises to be a ground-breaking production, with its focus on inclusivity and representation.

The narrative centres on Daniel Brennan, a character portrayed by Matthew Gurney, who navigates the complexities of reintegration into society after being released from prison. The show boasts a diverse cast, many of whom are deaf or users of British Sign Language, including notable actors such as Lara Peake, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan, and Rose Ayling-Ellis.

This casting choice is a significant step towards inclusivity in the entertainment industry. Produced by Warp Films, the series is penned by William Mager and directed by Luke Snellin, with Sheffield serving as the primary filming location. “Reunion” is not just a drama; it’s a statement on the importance of diversity and the power of storytelling in shaping public perception and understanding.

“Aspects of Beauty”
Suzy Kerfoot

You may recall that in August last year Suzy Kerfoot, a 45-year-old Crosspool beauty therapist who had turned her back on gymnastics at the age of 15, made an incredible return to the sport and clinched gold in the over-45s category at the Adult Gymnastics British Championships.

Her remarkable achievement didn’t stop there—Suzy has now been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2024 Masters Gymnastics World Cup in Boston Massachusetts USA, which is scheduled for June. For Suzy, this opportunity is “beyond what I ever expected or dreamed.” She expressed her joy at being part of the team and competing against other countries in an international competition for the first time.

Suzy Kerfoot’s journey exemplifies resilience and determination, and her return to gymnastics after more than 25 years is a testament to believing in oneself and pursuing dreams regardless of age!

Winning the British championships did not give Suzy automatic selection into the team. Since last August Suzy has been training hard and thankfully it paid off.
The British team is made up of Gymnastics in the 30s 40s 50s and 60s categories.  Suzy will be representing the 40s on all four pieces and also competing for her own individual title. This will give Suzy her position in the world!

Adult gymnasts are not considered part of the “elite” category by British Gymnastics but are still expected to fund various expenses themselves. These expenses include purchasing their Great Britain tracksuit and leotard, paying competition fees, booking flights and accommodation, and managing all other associated costs.

Suzy dazzled the judges and the audience with her routines on the beam, floor, bars and vault, performing somersaults and backflips with grace and confidence. She scored the highest in three out of four disciplines, proving that age is just a number when it comes to gymnastics.

How Households are Coping with Covid-19.

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all keeping safe! I’m a journalist at ITV Calendar.

We are looking for a street in Sheffield who are friendly with each other and who have a tight knit sense of community.

We want to speak to a number of houses on the street for a piece we’re doing – looking at how different households are coping with Covid-19.

We’re looking for a range of people to speak to, from families, to the elderly, to single parents or people on their own.

if you think your street might be a good place for us to come and do some filming, or if you know anyone that might be a good candidate!
