Tickets still available for historic Bank holiday football match at Sandygate

On Bank holiday Monday 2 May, the oldest football ground in the world in Crosspool will host an anniversary match between between the world’s two oldest football clubs.

Hallam FC played Sheffield FC in the world’s first inter-club football match on Boxing day 1860. The rematch at Sandygate marks the 150th anniversary of this historical game.

It was originally to be played on Boxing day 2010, but a frozen pitch caused the match to be postponed.

The game kicks off at 3pm and the day will include refreshments plus pre-match and half-time entertainment. And of course the Plough pub is just over the road from the ground.

Tickets are on sale now and are limited to Sandygate’s capacity of about 1,000. Standing is £10/£7 concessions, seating is £15/£12 concessions. All tickets purchased for Boxing Day will be valid for the rearranged date.

NCEL table: Hallam and Arnold are both on 27 points with one game remaining

A 2-1 victory at Liversage yesterday for Hallam FC has set up an end-of-season finale away at Arnold Town on Tuesday night to decide which club will be relegated.

Both teams are level on 27 points, but the Crosspool club go into the match needing a win to stay up due to their inferior goal difference.

One other team will join Dinnington Town in relegation to Northern Counties East League division one.

Tension mounts for Countrymen in relegation fight

A haul of six points from five games in nine days has left Hallam FC just three points behind Arnold Town and a position of safety.

The Countrymen picked up wins against Armthorpe Welfare at Sandygate and away at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, but suffered defeats to Farsley AFC, Tadcaster and Selby Town.

Hallam and Arnold each have three games left. They come head to head on the final match of the season, a game which could decide which team will join Dinnington Town in relegation to Division one.

Improving Hallam involved in pulsating 5-5 draw

Hallam FC were involved in an exciting 5-5 draw at Winterton Rangers on Saturday.

The Countrymen were 5-3 up at half time but conceded two second half goals to allow Winterton to pull level.

Saturday’s match follows a 2-2 a draw with Thackley on Tuesday 29 March, meaning Hallam are now on a three-match unbeaten run. They take on Farsley AFC at Sandygate tomorrow (Thursday), kick off 7:45pm.

2-1 win sees Hallam climb off the bottom of the table

Crosspool football club Hallam FC hauled itself off the foot of the Northern Counties East League Premier division following a 2-1 derby win over Maltby Main at Sandygate on Saturday.

First half goals from Aaron Moxon and Gavin Hunter gave the Countrymen a 2-0 lead, before Greg Mason pulled a goal back for Maltby via a penalty in the 78th minute.

The three points lifts Hallam to 19th in the table, six points behind Arnold Town but the Countrymen have three games in hand.

The next match at Sandygate is Hallam v Thackley tonight, kick off 7:45pm.

Countrymen lose to Nostell and Bridlington

Two defeats in seven days have meant Crosspool’s local football club Hallam FC has been unable to lift itself off the bottom of the Northern Counties East Premier League.

The Countrymen lost 4-1 to Nostell Miners Welfare on Saturday 12 March and suffered a 2-0 reverse to Bridlington Town over the weekend.

Hallam’s next game at Sandygate is on Thursday against Hall Road Rangers, kick off 7:45pm.

Hallam finally win

Hallam recorded a long-overdue league win at the expense of Arnold Town on Tuesday night at Sandygate.

A goal by Simon Asquith in the 18th minute was enough to secure the three points.

Despite the win, the Countrymen still find themselves at the bottom of the NCEL Premier Division. They have played fewer league games than the teams around them, so still have chance to climb the table.

Hallam’s next match is tomorrow against Nostell Miners Welfare at Sandygate, kick off 3pm.

Crosspool-based football club Hallam FC have released images of their proposed new £280,000 clubhouse.

The new building will include a history of football visitors centre to celebrate Sandygate’s status of being officially the oldest football ground in the world. The developments are being funded by the late Roger Bell, who left a financial gift for the club when he passed away.

Hallam’s postponed 150th anniversary Boxing Day match against Sheffield FC has bee rearranged for Monday 2 May.

Hallam’s poor form continues

Hallam suffered a 5-0 defeat to league leaders Farsley AFC last weekend.

The match was goalless at half time, but after the break the Countrymen conceded five, including a brace from Andy Cooper.

Hallam remain rooted to the bottom of the Northern Counties Premier Division, however they do have five games in hand on the team above them, Dinnington Town.

Their next match is against Armthorpe Welfare at Sandygate on Saturday 26 February, kick off 3pm.

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday player named new Hallam FC manager

Hallam FC have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday player Julian Watts as their new manager following last week’s 4-2 home defeat against Liversedge.

Watts replaces outgoing manager Kenny Geelan and takes charge of the Countrymen who are currently propping up the Northern Counties East League Premier Division with just 10 points from 21 games.

His first match in charge is on Saturday 29 January at Sandygate against Selby Town 5 Feburary at Sandygate against Thackley.
