HALLAM CHASE, TUESDAY 30th May 2023

Hallam Chase Fell Race is the oldest continuously run Fell Race in the world.

This annually run race over a 3¼ mile-long course with 800 feet of climb, organised by Hallamshire Harriers and hosted by Hallam Cricket Club, takes place this Tuesday, 30th May.

Runners set off from Hallam Football/Cricket Club’s Sandygate ground at 8 pm, go down Coldwell Lane, Den Bank through the Rivelin Valley, and up Tofts Lane to Stannington Church gates, before returning by the same route.

This heritage-related event goes back as far as 1862.
The current record time of 19 minutes 42 seconds was set in 1968 by Trevor Wright.

Snake Pass Closed

The Snake Pass will be closed for 5 days from tomorrow Monday 22nd May.

To allow for extensive urgent repairs and resurfacing works to be carried out on the narrow width of single carriageway at Gillot Hey and the landslip at Wood Cottage, the A57, from the turning for the Upper Derwent Fairholmes visitor centre, to the summit of the Snake Pass, will be closed in both directions to all traffic including pedestrians and cyclists.

Crosspool Festival 2023

( Crosspool Festival Week, Friday, June 30th to Sunday 9th July 2023)

2023 Crosspool Festival Art, Craft, Photography, Cake Baking Exhibition, Demonstrations and Awards. Tuesday 4th & Wednesday 5th July, St Columba’s church.

This summer, Crosspool Festival is holding a two-day exhibition for the people of Crosspool to showcase their creativity in the areas of Art, Craft, Photography and Cake Making.

Entry Details
Anyone who lives, works, volunteers or goes to school in the Crosspool area can enter and have their submission exhibited. There will be a chance also to win some prizes, which are sponsored by Cocker & Carr Estate Agents.

There will also be demonstrations on Spinning Alpaca Fleece on Tuesday and Lace Making on Wednesday; plus an introduction to Philately; a fun and addictive hobby of stamp collecting. There will also be a display from Crosspool Members of the Sheffield Photography Society.

There is no theme to follow, just show us what you can create. You can enter as many of the categories as you want, but no more than two entries per category.

The Cake Baking and Crafts will be judged on Wednesday 5 July at St Columba’s Church. 

The Photography and art entries will not be chosen by a judge. Rather, the visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for their favourites in both the under-16s and over-16s categories.

After the exhibition, Cocker & Carr will then put on a window display for some of the entries in the art, craft and photography categories

How to Enter.

Cake Baking.
This is open to Under 16s; Everyone over 16 years.
You can submit up to two cakes that you have made yourself.
Your cakes can be handed in at St Columba’s Church either on Monday 3rd July between 6 -7 pm or Tuesday 4th July from 9-10 am. You must include a card that gives details of

      • Age category
      • Your contact email and phone number.
      • Ingredients (info on potential allergies).

      Art and Craft Creations.
      This is open to Under 16s; Everyone over 16 years.
      You can submit up to two creations that you have made yourself.

      From Monday 12th June, you can drop off your entries at Cocker & Carr Estate Agents. The closing date is midday on Friday 30th June.

      Photography
      This is open to Under 16s; Everyone over 16 years.
      You can submit a maximum of two images and the prints can be any size from A5 or A3. They can be print only or be mounted or framed on the back you must state

      • Age category
      • Your contact email and phone number
      • A title for your photo.

      From Monday 12th June, you can drop off your entries at Cocker & Carr Estate Agents. The closing date is midday on Friday 30th June.

      Hallam Grange Open Day

      Hallam Grange Tennis and Bowls Club, at the top of Slayleigh Lane Fulwood S10 3RH, are holding an Open Day this Sunday 14th May 2023, between 1pm and 4pm.

      Try your hand at either Tennis, Bowling, or Table Tennis. All are welcome, whether you’re a beginner or with experience.

      The Coronation Weekend

      The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023. The Service, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, will reflect the Monarch’s role today and look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

      Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey on the morning of Saturday, 6th May 2023 in a procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’, for the solemn religious Coronation Service, an occasion for celebration and pageantry.

      After the Service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family.
      At Buckingham Palace, The King and The Queen Consort, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.

      On Sunday, 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios.

      The Coronation Weekend will provide an opportunity for friends and family to come together in celebration of the historic occasion. Neighbours and communities will be sharing food and fun at Coronation Big Lunches, in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship.
      From a cup of tea with a neighbour to a street party, a Coronation Big Lunch brings the celebrations to your neighbourhood and is a great way to get to know your community a little better.   To help people and communities start their Coronation Big Lunch, Free downloadable resources have been made available online by the Big Lunch team at CoronationBigLunch.com.
      Thousands of events are expected to take place in every corner of the United Kingdom this May as people take to their streets, gardens, parks and community spaces to join the Coronation celebrations

      Hallam Football Ground on Sandygate Road, (officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as “The Oldest Football Ground in the World”), will be open from 12noon on Sunday, 7th May 2023 to welcome everyone to bring and enjoy their own picnic at one of their many seated areas in this historic setting. Have a drink from their well-stocked bar and socialise with fellow members of the community.
